Hyderabad: A total of 996 individuals were apprehended by the SHE Teams for harassing women during the recent Ganesh festivities at Khairatabad Bada Ganesh pandal and other crowded locations across the city. The crackdown aimed to ensure the safety and dignity of women during the festivities, which draw large crowds.
According to SHE Team officials, those apprehended were caught engaging in indecent behavior towards women in public spaces. These individuals faced legal action, with cases being booked against them. In instances where video evidence could not be obtained, the suspects were counseled in the presence of their family members as a corrective measure.
It is important to note that prior to the Ganesh festival, the SHE Teams had posted a video on social media capturing an indecent act on a bus where a man was filmed behaving inappropriately towards a woman. The footage, recorded by the vigilant team, was later shared on social media as a stern warning to potential offenders. This isn’t the first time police have used social media to expose wrongdoers, reminding the public that a “third eye” is watching their actions.
Despite repeated warnings and increased surveillance, cases of harassment continue to emerge. The SHE Teams have consistently emphasized that they are actively monitoring public spaces and will take swift action against any misconduct.
