“Crucial Talks with Central Congress Leader Open Path for YSRTP-Congress Merger”
YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP), led by Y.S. Sharmila, is on the brink of merging with the Congress party following the removal of all obstacles, an insider revealed to IANS on Friday.
Sharmila, after her visit to Delhi where she held discussions with a prominent central leader of the Congress, returned to Hyderabad on Friday night.
Despite remaining reticent when confronted by the awaiting media personnel, reliable sources affirmed that the path has been cleared for the YSRTP’s assimilation into the Congress. During her stay in Delhi over the past few days, Sharmila engaged in deliberations with Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal.
While speculations have been rife about the merger between YSRTP and Congress for several months, this marks the first instance of Sharmila engaging with a central figure of the party. Being the daughter of the late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, a prominent Congress leader and former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, Sharmila’s integration is anticipated to fortify the Congress party’s morale ahead of the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections scheduled for the end of the year.
Sharmila, who is the sibling of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, has unequivocally communicated her disinterest in Andhra Pradesh politics, committing to a focus on Telangana.
She has already declared her intention to contest from the Paleru constituency in Khammam district. In the midst of these developments, Congress MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy affirmed his welcome of Sharmila’s induction into the party. Traveling alongside Sharmila to Hyderabad, he conveyed that he extended an invitation to YSR’s daughter to join the Congress during their flight interaction. “I have extended an invitation to the late YSR’s daughter to join the Congress party,” he conveyed to the press.
