Hyderabad, August 20,2023 : On the occasion of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary, YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) president Y. S. Sharmila paid homage to the late leader with a heartfelt post.

Sharmila took to [Social Media Platform X] to share a poignant picture of Rajiv Gandhi alongside her late father and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. In her post, she reflected on their shared vision and mission to positively impact the lives of millions, lamenting their untimely departure.

Two young leaders with vision and on a mission to change the lives of millions, have gone on too soon. India will always remember them and miss them. My humble tribute to late Shri. Rajiv Gandhi ji on his birth anniversary. A visionary and one of the most loved prime ministers, who laid the path to 21st century India,” Sharmila wrote.

Speculations are rife about Sharmila’s intention to merge her party with the Congress ahead of the Telangana Assembly elections scheduled for November-December this year. Recently, she engaged in discussions with Congress general secretary K. C. Venugopal in Delhi, signaling possible developments.

Sharmila, the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, congratulated Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on his reinstatement as a Member of Parliament by the Supreme Court after his disqualification was stayed.

Recognizing Rahul Gandhi’s unyielding efforts to uphold democracy, secularism, and national unity, Sharmila extended her support to the cause and urged like-minded forces to unite for this purpose. Her interactions with Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar sparked speculation about a potential merger of YSRTP with Congress.
