Earlier in July 2024, the Indian Navy and NCB had collaborated to seize 300 kilograms of heroin worth ₹1,500 crore in the Arabian Sea. In that instance, a fishing vessel suspected of being part of a transnational drug network was intercepted, underscoring the increasing use of maritime routes for drug trafficking.
Additionally, in April 2024, the Gujarat ATS (Anti-Terrorism Squad) and Coast Guard conducted a joint operation off the Gujarat coastline, seizing 250 kilograms of heroin worth ₹1,200 crore. The drugs were reportedly being smuggled from Pakistan to India, highlighting the recurring threat of narcotics trafficking in the region.
