Hyderabad : Vennela, the daughter of the late revolutionary balladeer Gaddar, has expressed her strong desire to contest in the upcoming assembly elections in Telangana, which are scheduled for the next month. She has openly urged the Congress party to consider her for a ticket from the Secunderabad Cantonment constituency.

Vennela, alongside her mother Vimala Rao, held a press conference in Hyderabad on Saturday, making her intentions clear that she is ready to take on the electoral challenge. With several Congress leaders vying for the Secunderabad Cantonment ticket, she emphasized her willingness to represent this constituency if given the opportunity.

Vennela recalled her father’s vision for bringing about change through the democratic process. Gaddar, before his recent demise, had expressed his support for the Congress party and had a strong desire to participate in electoral politics.

Vimala, the mother of Vennela, expressed concerns regarding the Congress party’s initial assurance of a ticket for the family but the subsequent lack of clarity from party leadership. She seeks a prompt resolution of this matter.

Notably, last month, prominent Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi, offered their condolences and support to Gaddar’s family during the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Hyderabad. They acknowledged Gaddar’s tireless efforts in championing the rights of the people.

Gaddar, the revered poet and singer, passed away on August 6 at the age of 74. His final public appearance took place on July 2 in Khammam, where he shared a memorable embrace with Rahul Gandhi during a public gathering of the Congress party.

Following his demise, Sonia Gandhi conveyed her heartfelt condolences to Gaddar’s wife in a letter. In the message, she praised Gaddar for using art and culture as powerful tools to shed light on the struggles of marginalized and oppressed communities within society.

As Vennela pursues her political aspirations, the political landscape in Telangana is sure to be shaped by the legacy of her renowned father, Gaddar.
