Hyderabad : Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) Chairman B. Janardhan Reddy’s resignation, submitted after his meeting with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, is currently in limbo. Although Reddy tendered his resignation on Monday evening, Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, currently in Puducherry as Lieutenant Governor, has not officially accepted it.
Contrary to circulating reports, Raj Bhavan has denied that the Governor has approved the resignation. Officials from Raj Bhavan have confirmed that Janardhan Reddy’s resignation is still under consideration by Governor Soundararajan.
The former IAS officer’s tenure as TSPSC Chairman was marked by challenges, including question paper leaks and exam cancellations. The leakage, particularly concerning Assistant Engineer (AE), Group-I Preliminary, and DAO exams in March of this year, led to significant repercussions. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested around 100 individuals, including TSPSC employees, in connection with the case. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) also conducted an investigation.
The opposition parties heavily criticized the BRS government over the TSPSC paper leak, citing failures in exam conduct and demanding the board’s scrapping. The subsequent cancellation and postponement of exams triggered protests from unemployed youth, influencing the recent Assembly elections.
Janardhan Reddy, appointed TSPSC chairman by the previous BRS government in May 2021, had held various key positions in the government before taking voluntary retirement to assume the TSPSC role.
With the resignation under review, the fate of the seven members appointed to TSPSC alongside the chairman remains uncertain. The Congress party, during the election campaign, pledged to revamp TSPSC and ensure transparent recruitment processes in government departments. The new government is expected to take swift steps toward fulfilling this promise, potentially involving the appointment of a new board.
