“AI technology is not just about the evolution of machines; it’s a journey towards amplifying human potential and reshaping the landscape of what’s possible.”

Telangana unveiled a remarkable achievement on Monday with the release of the “State of AI Ecosystem in Telangana” report.

This comprehensive document, meticulously crafted by the Telangana AI Mission (T-AIM) in collaboration with NASSCOM and under the guidance of the State government, sheds light on Telangana’s rapid ascent as a global powerhouse in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The report showcases the seamless convergence of cutting-edge research, diverse talent, robust infrastructure, and strategic partnerships that have propelled Telangana’s journey.

Leading with visionary foresight, the State has spearheaded transformative initiatives. These include projects encompassing quality assessment of agricultural produce, secure pensioner authentication through selfies, innovative pothole detection and mapping, among other ingenious endeavors.

By infusing technology into critical sectors, Telangana has paved the way for efficient, secure, and citizen-centric solutions.

The report highlights the role of T-AIM-led Grand Challenges in inspiring innovation and fostering an entrepreneurial spirit to address public sector challenges.

Telangana’s prowess in AI is underscored by its noteworthy global rankings.

Six of its universities have secured coveted positions among the top 1,000 globally for research publications in computer science, as per SCImago Institutions Rankings 2022.

Notably, the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIITH), and the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) have achieved prominent ranks of 508 and 552 respectively.

The region’s contributions to AI research have been substantial, evident through an impressive tally of 1,774 AI-related publications spanning from 2011 to 2022.

A significant emphasis lies in the domains of robotics and computer vision, with Telangana accounting for 61 percent of total patent filings in these areas.

Telangana takes pride in its commitment to diversity, exemplified by a Gender Parity Index (GPI) of 1.09 among its student population. The State recognizes diversity’s pivotal role in mitigating decision biases during AI model training.
