Telangana has embarked on a unique initiative in India by appointing the Telangana State Mineral Development Corporation (TSMDC) to collaborate directly for securing access to Lithium and other minerals in Latin American countries through joint venture partners.
This effort aims to ensure a stable supply of batteries and essential raw materials needed for advanced cell chemistry manufacturing.
Industries Minister KT Rama Rao announced this initiative, highlighting the state’s focus on building an EV and ESS ecosystem.
He praised Telangana’s bold vision in taking such a significant step.
Speaking at the Evolve – A Unique Conclave on Advanced Battery Technologies, Rama Rao emphasized that sustainable and shared mobility is India’s future, with Telangana leading the way in driving innovative growth.
The state’s innovation institutions including T – Works, T -Hub, We-Hub, TASK, TSIC, and others have been pivotal in establishing a robust innovation ecosystem.
Hyderabad has become the preferred destination for establishing research, development, design, and engineering facilities. Amara Raja’s Evolve and Innovation centre is expected to further enhance the state’s dynamic innovation system.
Looking ahead, India’s demand for ACC batteries is projected to reach 260 Giga watt hours by 2030, with approximately 60% of this being domestically manufactured by 2030.
Telangana aims to contribute significantly to this growth by hosting about 30 giga watt hour capacity lithium ion giga factories by 2030.
The successful development of a domestic battery manufacturing ecosystem requires substantial government support and planning across the entire supply chain. In this regard, the Telangana Government has introduced the Telangana Mobility Valley – a pioneering initiative in India.
