In a significant move, the newly-formed Congress government in Telangana, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, is set to initiate the implementation of two out of the six guarantees promised to the public. This decision was formalized during the inaugural Cabinet meeting held at the State Secretariat.

Minister D. Sridhar Babu, addressing the media after the Cabinet session, disclosed that the guarantees involving free travel for women in TSRTC buses and an expansion of Rajiv Aarogyasri health insurance coverage to Rs 10 lakh would be enforced starting December 9. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is slated to convene a meeting with officials from the respective departments to oversee the execution of these two assurances.

For the remaining guarantees, the government intends to collect pertinent data from the concerned departments, ensuring a comprehensive implementation plan. Minister Sridhar Babu emphasized the government’s steadfast commitment to fulfilling all six guarantees within the first 100 days.

Assurances outlined in the party manifesto, beyond the initial guarantees, are earmarked for fulfillment over the five-year term. During the Cabinet deliberations, the state’s financial status took center stage, prompting directives for officials to furnish detailed reports on allocations and expenditures across all departments from 2014 to 2023. A forthcoming white paper on state finances aims to provide transparent insights to the public.

The Cabinet also delved into the power sector, issuing directives to ensure uninterrupted 24-hour power supply to all sectors, particularly agriculture. Discussions touched upon the previous government’s alleged lack of planning in the power sector. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is scheduled to conduct a comprehensive review meeting on the power sector this Friday.

In a related decision, newly-elected MLAs are slated to take their oath of office on December 9, coinciding with the birthday of senior party leader Sonia Gandhi.
