Hyderabad: With concerns over the rising heatwave, the Telangana Department of Education has announced an extension of the summer break for students this year. All government and private schools across the state will observe summer vacations from April 24, Wednesday, until June 11, Tuesday. Classes are scheduled to resume on June 12, Wednesday, heralding the start of the new academic year 2024-2025.

Today marks the final day for students to attend school before the onset of the 50-day break, beginning April 24. Notably, in light of the intense summer conditions, the Department of Education had previously issued directives for half-day schooling in all government and private schools until April 23, Tuesday, as of March 6.

A circular, numbered Rc.No.42/Genl/2024, issued by Commissioner of School Education Ms. A. Devsena IAS, has mandated all Regional Joint Directors of School Education and District Educational Officers (DEOs) to adhere to these directives.

In a separate development, following the conclusion of the Intermediate annual examinations, the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education had declared holidays for colleges from March 30. These holidays will extend until May 31, affording college students a comprehensive two-month break. Colleges are slated to reopen on June 1, resuming academic operations.

During this 50-day vacation period, parents and guardians are urged to supervise their children closely, advising against visits to lakes or rivers due to safety concerns. If such outings are insisted upon, ensure adequate safety measures are in place or opt for visits to secure swimming pools. Furthermore, efforts should be made to curtail excessive and inappropriate usage of social media, mobile phones, and video games.

Special attention should be given to English medium students for learning Urdu/Arabic during these holidays. Consider organizing technical or computer training sessions for them, and encourage participation in religious gatherings. Proper utilization of this break will contribute to a brighter future for these young learners.

As responsible citizens, parents should prioritize exercising their voting rights in the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for May 13 in Telangana. Any travel plans made during the holidays should ensure a return to respective locations by May 12. Remember, voting is a democratic duty; let’s fulfill this obligation.
