Hyderabad : — In a landmark decision, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy approved significant discounts on pending traffic challans, a move aimed at providing relief to commuters. The announcement, made on Friday, outlines substantial reductions in fines, with an emphasis on facilitating compliance ahead of the Mega National Lok Adalath scheduled for December 30, 2023, under the auspices of the Telangana High Court.

According to the newly approved discount scheme, fines for two and three-wheelers will witness an impressive 80 percent reduction, while those for four-wheelers and large trucks will enjoy a substantial 60 percent discount. These discounts come into effect from December 26, 2023, allowing individuals with pending challans to benefit from the reduced fines.

To streamline the process, commuters with outstanding challans can clear them online from December 23, 2023, until January 19, 2023, through the E-challan traffic website. This user-friendly approach aims to enhance accessibility and convenience for residents of Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Rachakonda, and beyond.

It is worth noting that similar discount offers in March 2022 witnessed widespread participation from commuters who seized the opportunity to settle their outstanding challans at reduced rates. However, recognizing the challenge faced by individuals in Telangana’s districts and rural areas due to a lack of information, authorities are urging broader dissemination to ensure wider participation in this beneficial initiative.

As part of the comprehensive discount program, special provisions have been made for specific cases, including push carts (39b cases) and RTC drivers, with a remarkable 90 percent waiver on fines. Two-wheelers and three-wheelers, such as bikes and autos, will enjoy an 80 percent discount, while light motor vehicles (LMVs), cars, four-wheelers, and heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) (trucks) can avail a 60 percent reduction.

This strategic initiative not only aims to alleviate the financial burden on commuters but also underscores the government’s commitment to a fair and accessible legal system. As the discount window opens on December 26, 2023, citizens are encouraged to take advantage of this limited-time opportunity and clear their pending challans promptly.
