Sonia Gandhi, Chairperson of the Congress Parliamentary Party, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the upcoming special five-day session of Parliament starting on September 18, 2023.
In her letter, she raises concerns about the session being convened without consultation with other political parties and the lack of a disclosed agenda. She expresses a desire to participate in the session to address matters of public concern, emphasizing the need for discussions on the following issues:
- Current economic situation with a focus on increasing price rise of essential commodities, growing unemployment, rise in inequalities, and distress of MSMEs.
- Commencement made by the Government of India to farmers and farmer organizations in regard to MSP and other demands raised by them.
- Demand for a JPC to investigate the transactions of the Adani business group in light of all revelations in various leaks and disclosures.
- The continued agony of the people of Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh due to our border incidents.
- Rise in communal tensions in the wake of incidents involving Harayana.
- Continuing occupation of Indian Territory by China and challenges to our sovereignty on our borders in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh.
- Urgent need for a Caste Census.
- Damages being inflicted on Centre-State relations.
- Impact of natural disasters caused by extreme weather events in some States and drought in others.
Sonia Gandhi hopes for a spirit of constructive cooperation during the session to address these pressing issues.
