Security Concerns Loom as Pro-Khalistan Slogans Deface Delhi Metro Stations Ahead of G20 Summit

New Delhi, August 27, 2023 — Preceding the highly anticipated G20 Summit scheduled to take place in the national capital next month, apprehensions regarding security have heightened. Suspected members of Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), a front for the separatist Khalistan Group, reportedly vandalized over five Metro stations with pro-Khalistan slogans, an official statement disclosed on Sunday.

Photographs released by Delhi Police showcase the Metro station walls adorned with slogans proclaiming “Delhi Banega Khalistan” and “Khalistan Zindabad.” The SFJ shared raw footage depicting the defaced Metro stations, further substantiating the incident.

An official detailed, “Suspected SFJ activists defaced multiple Metro stations in Delhi from Shivaji Park to Punjabi Bagh with pro-Khalistan slogans.

Authorities have confirmed the defacement and affirmed their commitment to pursuing appropriate legal action in response to the incident.

This incident of Metro station defacement arrives as New Delhi currently hosts the B20 Summit India 2023, a three-day gathering commencing on August 25 and concluding on Sunday. The summit has attracted participation from over 1,500 delegates representing 55 nations.

Looking ahead, the national capital is gearing up to welcome as many as 18 heads of state for the forthcoming G20 summit next month. Prominent global figures, including US President Joe Biden, Chinese Premier Xi Jinping, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and French President Emmanuel Macron, are among the expected attendees of the G20 Leaders’ Summit. Amid these international engagements, the defacement incident raises concerns about security measures in the lead-up to these crucial diplomatic events
