In a news conference in Beijing, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his strong condemnation of the attack on the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in central Gaza, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of people. He described it as a “terrible event” and a “catastrophe.” President Putin emphasized the need for an urgent resolution to the conflict and urged the initiation of diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the ongoing crisis.
The Israeli airstrike on Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital led to more than 500 reported casualties, as stated by Palestinian officials. However, Israel has denied responsibility for the air raid.
Gaza is currently facing a dire humanitarian crisis, characterized by a lack of electricity, dwindling supplies of water, food, fuel, and medical provisions.
The conflict in Gaza began on October 7, with Hamas initiating Operation Al-Aqsa Flood in response to events including the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and escalating violence by Israeli settlers. In retaliation, Hamas launched a multi-pronged surprise attack, which included rocket launches and infiltrations into Israel by land, sea, and air. The Israeli military responded with Operation Swords of Iron, targeting Hamas positions in the Gaza Strip.
The casualty figures from the conflict stand at over 3,300 Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks and more than 1,400 people in Israel.
