Revanth Reddy Addressing Press conference at AICC HQ.
A significant political development is unfolding in Telangana as A. Revanth Reddy, the President of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), has thrown his hat into the ring, preparing to contest the upcoming Assembly polls scheduled for November 30. His opponent of choice? None other than the incumbent Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, from the Kamareddy constituency.
Revanth Reddy, who is currently contesting from Kodangal, made this announcement in Delhi while addressing the media. He underscored that his challenge to the Chief Minister to contest from Kodangal had not been accepted. Therefore, if directed by the party, either he or Congress Legislature Party (CL) leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka would take up the mantle and contest against Chief Minister Rao in the Kamareddy constituency.
Chief Minister Rao has already made it clear that he intends to seek re-election from the Gajwel seat, which he clinched in the 2018 elections. Simultaneously, he is also vying for victory in the Kamareddy constituency.
It’s worth noting that Revanth Reddy had previously faced defeat in Kodangal during the 2018 elections but went on to secure a Lok Sabha seat from Malkajgiri in 2019.
The names of both Revanth Reddy and Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka have featured prominently in the first list of 55 Congress candidates, which was unveiled on October 15. Vikramarka is seeking re-election from the Madhira constituency.
With anticipation mounting, the Congress is expected to release its second list of candidates on Thursday. Revanth Reddy exudes confidence, expressing the belief that the Congress will attain a decisive victory in Telangana.
He firmly dismissed speculations of a hung Assembly, highlighting that a united Andhra Pradesh never experienced such a situation. As the elections for the 119-member Assembly draw closer, all eyes are on the unfolding political drama in the state.
