Telangana Congress President A. Revanth Reddy took a dig at the BJP on Sunday, criticizing their promise to have a Chief Minister from the Backward Classes (BC). Reddy questioned how a party, whose candidates struggle to save their deposits, could make such a commitment, referring to the BJP’s election manifesto.

In the BJP’s manifesto, they pledged to appoint a leader from the backward classes as the Chief Minister if voted to power. Revanth Reddy expressed skepticism about the party’s credibility, especially in light of its reluctance to conduct a Backward Caste census. He stated, “People are not ready to believe what they are promising,” during the ‘Meet the Press’ program in Hyderabad.

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief highlighted the fact that BJP candidates forfeited deposits in 105 out of 119 constituencies in the previous elections. He predicted that this trend would continue, with BJP candidates losing deposits in 110 constituencies this time.

Revanth Reddy also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement regarding the constitution of a committee on SC sub-categorization in reservations. He questioned the government’s inaction on this demand over the past decade.

During a public meeting organized by the Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) on November 11, Prime Minister Modi had announced the formation of a committee to explore empowerment options for Madigas. Revanth Reddy predicted that the BJP would conveniently forget this promise after the elections.

The Congress leader also took aim at the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) over the power issue, challenging the government to prove that farmers in the state receive 24-hour power. Reddy claimed that Congress was the first party to provide free electricity to farmers and asserted that, if elected, a Praja Darbar would be established at the State Secretariat to address people’s grievances.
