In a tragic incident, terrorists shot and martyred retired Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohd Shafi Mir while he was reciting the Azan in the mosque.

Srinagar:- A somber atmosphere enveloped Guntmullah village in J&K’s Baramulla district as scores of mourners gathered to bid farewell to retired Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohd Shafi Mir. The 70-year-old former SSP fell victim to terrorists when he was shot and killed on Sunday morning while calling the ‘Azan’ (Muslim Prayer call) in the local mosque in his village.

Official sources revealed that the retired SSP was targeted using a 12-bore gun with repeat action, capable of firing five cartridges. Despite cordoning off the area in an attempt to apprehend the assailants, no arrests have been made thus far.

The funeral of the slain police officer witnessed an outpouring of grief, with mourners from various walks of life gathering to pay their respects. The final rites took place in Mir’s ancestral graveyard in Guntmullah village, marking a solemn end to the life of a dedicated public servant.
