Eder Militao, the 25-year-old Brazilian defender for Real Madrid, is facing a prolonged period on the sidelines due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

This injury occurred during Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory against Athletic Bilbao at the start of the La Liga season.

Following the match, he underwent scans that confirmed the extent of the damage.

A club statement released on Sunday revealed the diagnosis and announced that Militao will undergo surgery in the near future.Carlo Ancelotti, the manager of Real Madrid, expressed concerns about the injury shortly after the game, describing it as a knee sprain and suggesting its severity was uncertain.

Unfortunately, the subsequent tests revealed the more serious diagnosis.

This unfortunate injury is the second major setback for Real Madrid within a week, as goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois also sustained an ACL injury that could keep him out of action for the entire season.

Eder Militao, who joined Real Madrid from Porto in 2019 for €50 million, has become an essential part of the team, featuring in 143 matches over five seasons. He boasts a two-time La Liga championship and was a member of the squad that clinched the 2022 Champions League title.

Real Madrid’s upcoming fixture is against Almeria on the following Saturday.
