In the midst of his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi expressed the party’s commitment to bringing peace and harmony back to Manipur. Addressing the people of Senapati, Gandhi conveyed solidarity with those affected by tragedy and assured the state’s citizens that the Congress stands with them in their quest for tranquility.

The yatra, spanning over 6,700 km through 100 Lok Sabha constituencies in 15 states, commenced on the second day from Sekmai and progressed through Kangpokpi before reaching Senapati in Manipur. The Congress leader emphasized the significance of starting the yatra from Manipur to shed light on the challenges faced by its people and to unite the nation.

Gandhi, who interacted with locals during the yatra, listened to their concerns and highlighted the struggles faced by the state. He acknowledged the loss of lives and property, expressing the party’s determination to work towards restoring peace.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh, providing updates on Day 2 of the yatra, shared details about the traditional flag hoisting ceremony in Sekmai, where the PCC President of Manipur, Meghachandra K, raised the flag.

The yatra, initiated in response to the ethnic violence that gripped Manipur in May last year, aims to present a new vision for India focused on harmony, brotherhood, and equitability. It is set to conclude in Mumbai on March 20 or 21. The initiative is part of the Congress’s strategy to shape the narrative for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, at the rally in Thoubal on the yatra’s first day, criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting Manipur during the ethnic violence and pledged to seek justice for the affected people. The violence has claimed over 180 lives and displaced thousands in the northeastern state.
