Hyderabad : In a sensational revelation, actor-politician Vijayashanthi, popularly known as “Ramulamma” and acknowledged as the “Lady Amitabh Bachchan” for her iconic roles in Telugu cinema, has accused the BJP and BRS of maintaining a clandestine understanding. Vijayashanthi, who recently departed from the BJP to join the Congress, cited the saffron party’s failure to address Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s corruption as the primary reason for her departure.
Addressing the media a day after formally joining the Congress, Vijayashanthi expressed her disappointment with the BJP’s failure to act against KCR, despite earlier promises. Alleging a secret understanding between the BJP and BRS, she asserted that their public statements differ from their covert collaboration, leaving BJP workers, Telangana activists, and the public deceived.
The former MP emphasized that the Congress is actively fighting against KCR’s corruption and expressed hope for the recovery and redistribution of the looted funds among the people. She also attributed the drastic fall in the BJP’s popularity to the removal of Bandi Sanjay as the state BJP president, a decision she had warned against four months before elections.
Blaming former minister and BJP MLA Eatala Rajender for Sanjay’s removal, Vijayashanthi described him as a “seed sown by KCR.” She accused Rajender of manipulating situations, creating divisions within the party, and pressuring the high command to replace Bandi Sanjay.
Vijayashanthi questioned the fate of the case against Rajender for encroaching assigned lands and asserted that the BJP has self-destructed in Telangana. She recalled her return to the BJP in December 2020 after a 15-year hiatus, highlighting her earlier roles in the party, including serving as the general secretary of the party’s women’s wing.
Having played a significant role in the fight for separate statehood for Telangana, Vijayashanthi’s political journey included joining and later merging Talli Telangana with TRS (now BRS). Despite setbacks and suspensions, she remained an influential figure, returning to Congress in 2017 and briefly rejoining the BJP in 2020. The recent revelations mark a new chapter in her political narrative.
