In a tragic incident unfolding in Brazil’s Amazon region, a plane crash has resulted in the loss of 14 lives, according to the state’s governor, Wilson Lima.

The catastrophe struck in Barcelos province, situated approximately 400 km (248 miles) from the state capital, Manaus.

Governor Wilson Lima expressed his profound sorrow, stating, “I deeply regret the death of the 12 passengers and two crew members who were victims of the plane crash in Barcelos on Saturday.” He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those affected.

The Manaus Aerotaxi airline confirmed the accident in a statement and disclosed an ongoing investigation. However, they refrained from providing specific details about the casualties or injuries.

“We count on respect for the privacy of those involved at this difficult time and will be available to provide all necessary information and updates as the investigation progresses,” their statement read.

Reports indicate that the Embraer PT-SOG aircraft had taken off from Manaus, the capital of Amazonas state, amidst heavy rain. Tragically, it crashed while attempting to land.

Globo television network shared video footage showing the aircraft resting on a muddy dirt track, partially obscured by lush green foliage. Onlookers, sheltered by umbrellas, gathered nearby.

In response to the incident, the Brazilian Air Force dispatched a team from Manaus to gather crucial information and secure evidence for the ongoing investigation, as confirmed by an Air Force statement.

While some Brazilian media outlets have suggested the involvement of U.S. citizens among the casualties, Reuters has yet to confirm these reports.

This tragic plane crash has sent shockwaves through the region, leaving families and communities in mourning as authorities work diligently to unravel the circumstances surrounding this devastating event.
