“Osmania University stands as a historic beacon of education and knowledge, a testament to the rich cultural and academic heritage of Hyderabad.”

The expansive Osmania University campus is poised to become a closed campus, barring vehicular traffic from its premises.

Plans are underway to construct a new link road encircling the campus, connecting the Vidyanagar-Amberpet side with Adikmet and Tarnaka.

This strategic road development will redirect commuters away from the campus main road, effectively closing it off.

The university administration’s persistent efforts to establish a closed campus received a significant boost when MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao declared the immediate sanctioning of the Adikmet link road.

This decision was prompted by a request from OU Vice Chancellor Prof D Ravinder during an event at Nizam College.

The proposed link road, estimated to cost Rs 16.50 crore, is slated to stretch from the Adikmet flyover, passing through the ECE Department and Andhra Mahila Sabha, and concluding near the NCC Gate of the university. Presently, the campus main road permits passage between 6 am and 8 pm. With the advent of the link road, vehicular thoroughfare on campus will cease, resulting in a fully closed campus, as articulated by Prof Ravinder.

An official stated that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) intended to initiate repair work on the Adikmet flyover and had sought the university’s consent to construct alternate temporary roads until the repair work’s completion.

“We have proposed a permanent four-way road running parallel to the railway track via the Adikmet flyover, terminating at the NCC Gate. The estimated length is about 1.2 km, and suitable land has been identified for this purpose,” the official said.
