In a tragic turn of events, the death toll in Nepal has risen to 128, with more than 100 people injured, following a powerful earthquake measuring 6.4 magnitude. The earthquake struck Nepal late on Friday night, as reported by The Kathmandu Post.

Nepal Prime Minister’s Response

Nepal’s Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ has swiftly departed for the earthquake-affected areas to assess the situation and offer support.

Hardest-Hit Areas

Reports as of 3 am local time on Saturday reveal that Jajarkot and West Rukum have suffered the most damage. Jajarkot reported 92 deaths, including Nalgad Municipality Deputy Mayor Sarita Singh. Additionally, 44 casualties and 70 injuries were reported in the district’s Ramidanda of the Barekot Rural Municipality.

In Jajarkot, more than 55 people have sustained injuries, with some being treated at various medical institutes in the district. In West Rukum, the death toll has reached 36, with 85 people injured.

Rescue and Relief Efforts

To aid the affected regions, security forces and medical facilities, including Bheri Hospital, Kohalpur Medical College, Nepalgunj Military Hospital, and Police Hospital, have been mobilized. Helicopter operators are on standby to evacuate the injured from earthquake-affected areas, and ambulances are stationed near Nepalgunj Airport and military barracks.

Nepal Prime Minister’s Statement

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ expressed his grief over the human and material losses caused by the earthquake. The Prime Minister’s Office stated that he has mobilized all three security agencies for immediate rescue and relief efforts.

Earthquake Details

The earthquake, with a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter Scale, originated in Nepal at a depth of 10 km, as per the National Centre for Seismology. The tremors were felt in various North Indian districts, including Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.
