Hyderabad:– Lahiri Komaravelly emerged triumphant at the Telangana State Sailing Regatta, showcasing exceptional skill and determination. In a closely contested battle with her sister Deekshita Komaravelly, Lahiri secured the gold and the Telangana State Sub Junior Sailing Championship.

The siblings, Lahiri and Deekshita, concluded the competition tied at 15 points each. However, Lahiri’s impressive performance in winning 5 races compared to her sibling’s 4 ultimately secured her the coveted gold medal.

The competition intensified in the last two races, sailed under very light winds, where Lahiri’s strategic prowess came to the forefront. Deekshita, who was leading by just one point until the 10th race, faltered, allowing Lahiri to clinch the championship.

The boys’ category saw Banny Bongur, Vinod Dandu, and Rizwan Mohammad leading the fleet but trailing behind the girls in overall points. The mixed-gender fleets highlighted the outstanding performances of the girls, who dominated both sub-junior and junior championships, surpassing their male counterparts.

Suheim Sheikh, President of The Yacht Club of Hyderabad, expressed satisfaction with the results, especially attributing the success to the Naavika program for girls, emphasizing “Dignity Through Sports.”

In the Junior category, Jhansi Priva Laveti secured the gold comfortably with 8 points, followed by Vaishnavi Veeravamsham and Thanuja Kameshwar in silver and bronze positions, respectively. Shravan Kathravath claimed the Boys’ gold.

Dr. Shailaja Ramaiyer, IAS, Principal Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs, graced the prize-giving ceremony as the Chief Guest. After a fleet inspection, she delivered an encouraging speech, urging the young sailors to perform well at the forthcoming nationals, drawing inspiration from athletes like Preethi Kongara, who represented India at the Asian Games and the Olympics.
