Hyderabad : In a recent development, the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) has issued a directive to medical faculty, including doctors in both private and government teaching hospitals in Hyderabad. The directive strictly prohibits private practice during institutional working hours, which are defined as the period between 9 am and 4 pm.

Key Highlights:

  • NMC Advisory: The notice, issued on Friday by KNRUHS, cites guidance from the National Medical Commission (NMC), urging heads of medical colleges to instruct teaching faculty against engaging in private practice during their official institutional hours.
  • Telangana State Medical Council Notice: Aligning with the directive, the Telangana State Medical Council (TSMSC) also issued a similar notice on November 16 to the principals of both private and government medical colleges in the region. The notice emphasizes that faculty members must refrain from private practice during their institutional working hours.
  • Code of Medical Ethics Warning: The notice from TSMSC serves as a stern warning, highlighting that any violation of the code of medical ethics will be treated seriously. Faculty doctors found practicing during official working hours may face consequences, including the removal of their registration numbers from the medical registry of TSMC, Hyderabad.

This directive aims to uphold the professional integrity of medical faculty and ensure dedicated focus during institutional working hours. Both KNRUHS and TSMSC stress the importance of compliance with ethical standards for the benefit of medical education and patient care.
