Bengaluru : In the wake of the tragic firecracker explosion in Attibele that claimed the lives of 14 individuals, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has taken decisive action. In a meeting held on Tuesday, he reportedly instructed officials to take action against several key figures, alleging dereliction of duties.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s directives included suspending the Tahsildhar, Police Inspector, and Chief Fire Officer who were deemed responsible for the incident. Additionally, he announced that notices would be served to the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police for their roles in renewing the cracker license in the Attibele case.

The cracker license in question was issued to Ramaswamy Reddy, the proprietor of Balaji Traders. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized that moving forward, cracker licenses would be renewed annually, based on the license holder’s performance in the preceding year. This marks a significant departure from the previous practice of renewing licenses every five years in the state.

Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar also weighed in on the matter, stressing the importance of factors like having adequate space around shops selling crackers when considering license renewals.

Furthermore, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has directed officials to adhere to the Supreme Court’s orders on the use of “green crackers.” Henceforth, only eco-friendly green crackers will be permitted for use in the state, whether during processions, weddings, or any other celebratory events.

This proactive response seeks to prevent future accidents and enhance safety standards in the state’s firecracker industry, reflecting a commitment to protecting the lives and well-being of the people of Bengaluru.
