Hyderabad : In the face of various challenges, India’s broiler production for 2019 is poised to rise by an impressive 7 percent, reaching nearly 6 million tons. The demand for processed chicken meat is anticipated to grow between 10-21 percent, and layer production is forecasted at 125 billion eggs. This remarkable success, envied by developed nations, is a testament to the dedicated efforts of Indian poultry farmers who have transformed the poultry sector into a robust industry worth 120,000 crores. It stands as a crucial player in ensuring food and nutritional security for the nation.

Poultry’s Vital Role in Eradicating Malnourishment

Addressing a media conference in Hyderabad, Uday Singh Bayas, President of the Indian Poultry Equipment Manufacturers’ Association (IPEMA), emphasized the pivotal role of the poultry industry in combating malnourishment and protein deficiency. India, now the third-largest chicken producer globally, has become a beacon of success in the international poultry landscape. The industry, with its low-cost model and increased productivity, significantly contributes to India’s Agriculture and Animal Husbandry GDP. It plays a vital role in eradicating protein deficiency and malnutrition while providing employment opportunities, especially for rural women.

Record-Breaking Poultry India Expo in Hyderabad

The 15th Poultry India Expo, South Asia’s largest, has attracted a record 380 companies from India and 45 from abroad. Spanning 32,500 square meters and occupying six exhibition halls at the HITEC venue in Hyderabad, the expo is expected to draw over 30,000 business visitors. Scheduled from November 22-24, the three-day exhibition is a showcase of the latest developments in poultry management, animal health, nutrition, breeding, and poultry farm equipment.

Knowledge Day Technical Seminar: Insights for the Poultry Industry

Preceding the expo, the 15th Knowledge Day Technical Seminar on November 21 will provide a platform for over 1500 delegates from India, Africa, Europe, the USA, and SAARC nations to explore scientific innovations in various facets of the poultry industry.

Challenges and Government Support

Acknowledging challenges faced by the industry, Uday Singh Bayas expressed confidence in the government’s commitment to safeguarding the sector. The poultry industry, through its resilience and innovations, stands as a showcase of success globally. It remains a key contributor to India’s agricultural GDP, emphasizing low-cost models, increased productivity, and positive socio-economic impacts.

Call for Government Support and Relief Measures

The Indian poultry sector, contributing significantly to the national GDP, seeks support and relief measures from the government. Challenges include the availability and pricing of essential inputs like maize and DO Soya cake for feed, factors impacting the industry’s viability. The industry appeals for policy measures promoting maize cultivation, supporting processing industry growth, and providing incentives for investment.

The industry appreciates the support of state and central governments in addressing challenges such as cage bans, environmental concerns, and other advocacy issues. The industry calls for continued support to present its case effectively through media and courts.
