
Hyderabad : Osmania University marked a significant milestone with its 83rd Convocation, which took place at the Tagore Auditorium on October 31, 2023. The event was graced by Mr. Shantanu Narayan, CEO of Adobe Inc, and a proud alumnus of the University College of Engineering, OU. Notably, Mr. Narayan was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate in recognition of his substantial contributions to the field of technology.
Governor, Smt. Dr. Tamilisai Soundarajan, who serves as both the Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Podduchiri, as well as the Chancellor of Osmania University, bestowed this prestigious honor upon Mr. Narayan.
The convocation proceedings commenced with a warm welcome address by Prof. D. Ravinder, the Vice Chancellor of Osmania University. Prof. Ravinder shared insights into the various academic and research initiatives undertaken by the university, guided by the mantra of “Perform, Reform, and Transform.” Notably, the Vice Chancellor highlighted that a remarkable 979 PhD candidates registered for the convocation, and a staggering 1325 students were awarded PhD degrees in the last academic year. This exceptional surge in graduates was attributed to a one-time chance offered to candidates who had been admitted in the year 2007 and onwards to prevent the cancellation of admissions.
Governor Smt. Dr. Tamilisai Soundarajan, in her convocation address, extended her heartfelt congratulations to the gold medalists and PhD awardees for their remarkable achievements. She encouraged each graduate to aspire to be a leader and emphasized that the Prime Minister had expressed his desire to witness students transition from the classroom to the global stage. Her message to the students was to remain committed, proactive, and unwavering in their pursuit of happiness.
The conferral of PhD degrees followed, beginning with the Faculty of Arts and progressing through Commerce, Education, Engineering, Sciences, and more. Among the distinguished recipients, Dr. Md Asrar Ahmed and Dr. Humera Shazia from the Computer Science and Engineering department were honored with their PhD degrees in CSE. Their accomplishments were made possible through the Central Government’s Visvesvaraya PhD Scheme, introduced by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The Computer Science and Engineering department also celebrated the achievements of other recipients, including Prof. Suresh Kumar Lokhande, Prof. M. Venkat Das, Ms. Rajeshwari, and numerous others.
The convocation ceremony brought together a distinguished assembly of attendees, including Osmania University’s Registrar, Prof. P. Laxminarayana, Controller of Examinations Prof. M. Ramulu, members of the Executive Committee (EC), Deans representing the university’s 12 faculties, and numerous principals. Their collective presence reflected the significance of the event and showcased the unity of the academic community in celebrating the achievements of the graduates and the university’s mission to progress on a global scale.
