In a scorching turn of events, Hyderabad saw the mercury soar to its peak this summer, marking the hottest day of the season so far. Across Telangana, blistering temperatures reached close to 47°C, with numerous districts, including Peddapalli, Suryapet, Jagtial, and Khammam, scorching at 46.70°C.

The Telangana State Development and Planning Society (TSDPS) revealed that Quthbullapur in Hyderabad recorded the highest maximum temperature at 44.20°C, a one-degree rise from the previous day. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) echoed this, forecasting the persistence of the ongoing heatwave for the next four days across the state.

Officials from the IMD sounded alarms, noting that Hyderabad’s temperatures surpassed records from the last two years, with further warnings of continued heatwave conditions before an anticipated drop in temperatures. However, projections suggest another surge towards the month’s end, extending possibly into early June.

As the heatwave tightened its grip, 29 districts landed under a red alert, registering readings above 45°C. Adilabad, Medak, Sangareddy, and Hyderabad itself recorded temperatures exceeding 44°C, warranting an orange alert for these regions.
