Hyderabad, June 23, 2024 — In response to a recent surge in violent crimes, the Hyderabad police have reportedly instructed commercial establishments to close between 10:30 PM and 11 PM daily. This move follows a review of the state’s law and order situation by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy after a series of murders in the Old City sparked widespread concern.

Recent Violent Incidents:

  • On June 21, a 28-year-old driver named Mohd Zakir Ali was murdered in Achi Reddy Nagar.
  • On June 8, Mohd Layeeq from Rajendranagar was killed by a group of individuals at Attapur following a night out at a bar and restaurant.
  • Recently, a food court owner from Falaknuma was stabbed to death by armed assailants in Kalapather.
    Confusion Among Traders:
The early closure directive has left many traders uncertain, as no official notification has been issued. Social media is rife with unverified reports suggesting the state government has mandated a 10:30 PM shutdown. “The police did not inform us about the early closure of shops. Anyhow, we close the establishment at 11 PM while hotels run till midnight,” said a garment shop owner.

A senior police official clarified that while no formal written instructions have been received, early closures are advisable given the current law and order situation to prevent unnecessary gatherings.

Closing the market early might have some impact on certain types of crimes, particularly those that occur during late hours or in the vicinity of markets. However, it’s not a comprehensive solution to controlling crime. Crime is a complex issue influenced by various socioeconomic factors, and addressing it requires multifaceted approaches including community policing, social programs, education, and economic development.

As for “Questions of shopkeepers,” it refers to the concerns, issues, or challenges faced by shopkeepers or business owners. These questions could relate to security, competition, regulations, customer behavior, or other aspects that affect their businesses.

Police Advisory:
The police have also advised the public against offering rides to strangers and warned against loitering on city roads late at night. Consuming alcohol in public places is strictly prohibited, and citizens are urged to report any criminal activity immediately by calling Dial 100.

The public is encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement and adhere to these new measures to ensure safety and order in the city.
