HYDERABAD : In a significant development, the Hyderabad Cybercrime unit apprehended Manish Verma, a resident of Hussainialam, on charges related to the harassment of women and extortion on the popular social media platform Instagram.
Manish’s modus operandi involved randomly selecting profile pictures of women on Instagram, downloading them, and subsequently manipulating the images. Exploiting these manipulated photos, he resorted to blackmailing and extorting money from his victims by threatening to publicize the doctored images on social media platforms.
Following a formal complaint lodged by one of the female victims, the Cybercrime police initiated an investigation, leading to the booking of a case against Manish Verma. The swift action resulted in the successful apprehension of the accused, ensuring a timely response to the distress caused by his activities.
