Shivamogga, Karnataka – April 22, 2024 :- In a significant development, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced today that the investigation into the tragic murder of Neha Hiremath in Hubballi will be handed over to the Crime Investigation Department (CID). Furthermore, a special court will be established to ensure the swift adjudication of the case.

Neha Hiremath, a 23-year-old student and daughter of a Congress councillor, was fatally stabbed on the campus of BVB College last Thursday. The prime suspect, Fayaz Khondunaik, a former classmate of Neha, was apprehended by the police following the incident.

“We have decided to entrust the investigation to the CID. Additionally, a special court will be established to expedite proceedings. It is imperative that the charge sheet be filed promptly and justice be swiftly delivered,” stated Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

The murder case has ignited widespread public outcry and has become embroiled in a political debate between the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP. While the Congress has emphasized the personal nature of the incident, the BJP has labeled it a “love jihad” case, citing it as evidence of deteriorating law and order in the state.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed concerns over crime rates, asserting, “Crime cases have decreased during the Congress administration. In 2023, there were 1,295 reported cases, compared to 1,300, 1,318, 1,342, and 1,370 cases during the four years of BJP rule from 2019 to 2022.”

Expressing solidarity with the victim’s family, Siddaramaiah condemned Neha’s murder and reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens. “We will extend protection to all individuals during our tenure. Neha’s father has raised concerns about the involvement of four additional suspects, and we have instructed for a thorough investigation into this matter,” he added.

The decision to transfer the case to the CID and establish a special court underscores the government’s determination to expedite justice and bring closure to this tragic incident that has deeply shaken the community. Stay tuned for further updates as the investigation progresses.
