Hyderabad city faced another bout of rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday evening, disrupting normal life. The brief but intense showers led to waterlogging and traffic congestion in various areas, causing inconvenience to commuters. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad and its surroundings are likely to witness generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and winds of up to 40 kmph in the evening or night.

On Wednesday, June 5, the minimum and maximum temperatures recorded were 36.1 degrees Celsius and 24.6 degrees Celsius, respectively. Heavy rains inundated several roads in the city, with reports of significant water clogging received from various areas including Gowliguda, Al Jubail Colony, Yakutpura Bridge, Bilalnagar, Tadbun, Bibi Bazar, Tallabkatta, Mir Ka Daira, and Dabeerpura Darwaza.

Motorists faced challenges navigating through the waterlogged streets, with water levels rising up to four feet in some places. Vehicles parked near shops were swept away in areas such as Moula ka Chilla, Tallab Katta, Bhavani Nagar, Yakutpura, Chanchalguda and Chaderghat, due to heavy water flow.

The heavy downpour also disrupted bus services provided by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), as many bus stops in the old city lacked adequate shelters for commuters. Auto rickshaws temporarily halted operations due to the adverse weather conditions, while traffic flow on key routes like Santoshnagar – Saidabad Road and Bahadurpura – Shivarampally road was affected by ongoing construction work.

Citizens lodged complaints with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) about waterlogging, but immediate action was hampered by the continuous rainfall. The IMD has forecasted the possibility of rain in several zones of Hyderabad, including Khairtabad, Charminar, Kukatpally, Secunderabad , Serilingampally, and LB Nagar,

Additionally, various parts of Telangana are expected to experience moderate to heavy rains accompanied by lightning and gusty winds from June 6 to June 9. GHMC has issued a helpline number for rain-related incidents and assistance requests, which citizens can access via official social media accounts or by calling the hotline numbers 91 90001 13667 or 040-29555500.
