Hyderabad :- In alignment with the National Education Policy, 2020’s emphasis on fostering a National Academic Network for Community Engagement, students of Ghulam Ahmed College of Education in Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, celebrated National Youth Day on 12-01-2024. The theme for this year’s celebration was ‘Community Engagement with Elderly People,’ aiming to establish enduring connections between the youth and the elderly.
Dedicated to honoring the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, a revered spiritual and social leader in India, the day was dedicated to inspiring young minds towards selfless community service.
As part of the celebration, both students and staff of the college visited several Homes for the Aged in the city, including Fatima Old Age Home, Shifa Ullah Old Age Home, HCAH Assisted Living, and Dar Us Sufa Old Age Home. The objective was to interact with the elderly residents, fostering a sense of connection and understanding. Additionally, the students distributed clothes, food, and organized engaging activities such as musical chairs, guess the actor, antakshari, and riddles.
Approximately 100 students and 10 staff members actively participated in the program. Through their involvement, they were not only able to identify the existing shortcomings in society concerning the care of elders but also developed a genuine concern for the welfare of the elderly.
The collaborative effort for the program was facilitated by Dobara, enhancing the impact and outreach of the initiative. The event, centered on community engagement, successfully instilled a sense of responsibility and empathy among the students towards both society in general and the elderly population in particular.
