Guwahati : A blast occurred near an Army camp in Jorhat town, Assam, on Thursday, as confirmed by a military official. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties resulting from the incident.

According to Lt. Col. Mahendra Rawat, Defence PRO, miscreants tossed a handmade bomb into a dustbin near the gate of the army camp in Jorhat, and it detonated later in the evening at approximately 8 p.m. The explosion took place in the Lichubari area of the town, according to district officials.

In response to the incident, District Commissioner Pullock Mahanta and senior police officers promptly rushed to the site to assess and manage the situation.

Security measures in the vicinity have been heightened, with increased patrolling throughout the town.

It’s worth noting that the ULFA(I) claimed responsibility for the recent blasts in Tinsukia and Sivasagar in an email message on Sunday. The heightened security measures follow a grenade explosion near an army camp at Dirak in Tinsukia on November 22, leading to the apprehension of one individual.
