Warangal: A fisherman suffered severe injuries in a crocodile attack while fishing in Pakhal Lake, located in the Khanapuram mandal of Warangal district, on Monday.

Reports indicate that Shatla Chandramouli, from Budharaopet village, was fishing on a raft with other fishermen when a crocodile attacked, causing severe injuries to his leg and thigh. Hearing his cries for help, nearby fishermen rushed to his aid, prompting the crocodile to release him.

Chandramouli was quickly taken to the Narsampet Area Hospital via a ‘108’ ambulance. Due to the critical nature of his condition, he was transferred to Warangal MGM Hospital and subsequently to Hyderabad. Sources report that his condition has stabilized and he is responding well to treatment.

Despite fishing being banned in Pakhal Lake, which is part of the Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary, local fishermen frequently fish there illegally, especially at night. The forest staff have repeatedly caught and fined these fishermen, even destroying their boats, but the illegal activity continues using rafts and wooden logs, endangering their lives. There have been several crocodile attacks on fishermen in the past.

Pakhal Lake is home to over a hundred crocodiles. Forest officials have installed warning boards to alert people of the danger of crocodile attacks.
