Hyderabad: The Congress party is poised to reveal its second list of candidates for the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections, with the announcement expected on Wednesday or Thursday.

A meeting of the Central Election Committee of the party is scheduled for Wednesday in New Delhi, during which discussions and decisions regarding the candidate selection will take place. The initial list, consisting of 55 candidates, was disclosed by the Congress on October 15, leaving an additional 64 candidates to be declared.

The Screening Committee convened on October 21 and 22 at the residence of General Secretary, Organisation, K.C. Venugopal in Delhi. Chaired by Committee Chairman M.P. Muralidharan, the meeting included the presence of state unit President A. Revanth Reddy, AICC incharge for Telangana Manikrao Thakre, MPs Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and Uttam Kumar Reddy, as well as election strategist Sunil Kanugolu.

The Screening Committee reviewed the candidate options but did not reach a final decision for certain constituencies. Instead, they shortlisted candidates and submitted the list to the Central Election Committee for approval. However, the presence of multiple strong contenders in specific constituencies may pose a challenge for the CEC in their decision-making process.

During the Screening Committee meeting, discussions on both supportive and opposing viewpoints for various applicants took place, with constituencies like Amperpet, LB Nagar, Narsapur, Suryapet, Khairatabad, and Jubilee Hills being areas of disagreement.
