In a bid to disassociate itself from the recent controversy ignited by Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s remarks on Sanatan Dharma, Congress leader Pawan Khera emphasized the party’s commitment to ‘Sarvdharm Sambhav’ (equal respect for all religions).

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Khera stated, “The Indian National Congress has always upheld the principle of ‘Sarvdharm Sambhav,’ where no faith is considered inferior to any other. Congress does not endorse any of the comments made by Udhayanidhi Stalin regarding Sanatan Dharma.”

He further emphasized that every member of the INDIA alliance holds deep respect for all communities, religions, and faiths.

Udhayanidhi’s recent remarks equating Sanatan Dharma to diseases like dengue, COVID-19, and malaria stirred controversy nationwide and drew sharp criticism from the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).

“At this juncture, let me reiterate the core message of my statement: I believe, much like diseases such as COVID-19, dengue, and malaria spread through mosquitoes, Sanatan Dharma is responsible for several social issues,” clarified Tamil Nadu Sports Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin during a conference organized by the Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers Artists Association in Chennai on Saturday, September 2, 2023.
