New Delhi : Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram has launched a scathing critique of the BJP-led government at the center, raising concerns over the alleged state-sponsored hacking attempts directed at the mobile phones of opposition leaders. This accusation comes in the wake of the unresolved Pegasus mystery and has led to suspicions pointing towards a government agency.
In a post on a social media platform, Chidambaram questioned the government’s actions and stated, “It is undeniable that hundreds of Opposition leaders received alerts from Apple regarding state-sponsored attempts to compromise their phones.” He further queried, “Why are these hacking attempts seemingly targeted only at Opposition leaders? Who would have a vested interest in compromising their mobile devices?”
The unresolved Pegasus controversy, which dates back several years, has cast a shadow of suspicion on government agencies. Chidambaram emphasized that, at this juncture, these suspicions remain speculative, as no concrete evidence has been presented.
These statements come following a significant controversy that emerged when various Opposition MPs and leaders reported receiving notifications from Apple, informing them of attempted compromises on their devices by what were described as “state-sponsored attackers.” The unfolding situation has triggered a renewed debate surrounding cybersecurity and government accountability.
