Hyderabad : The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party is poised to escalate its legal battle over the duplication of its party symbol, the car, on the Central Election Commission’s list of free symbols.

The ruling party’s legal team initiated the fight by filing a writ petition in the Delhi High Court, seeking the removal of car-like symbols from the Commission’s roster of election symbols. The matter was brought before the Court on Thursday, where the counsel representing BRS was advised to consider filing a plea either in the Telangana High Court or the Supreme Court.

The BRS’s writ petition underlined the detrimental impact of the party’s election symbol’s resemblance to other symbols like the road roller, chapatti maker, and camera, which appear on Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). This visual similarity was argued to have caused BRS candidates to lose votes in elections. Notably, Telangana is gearing up for polls on November 30, with vote counting scheduled for December 3.
