In a significant development, the INDIA Alliance, a formidable coalition of opposition parties, concluded a two-day brainstorming session in Mumbai. During the meeting, the alliance established a 14-member coordination panel and announced its intention to formulate a seat-sharing arrangement among its member parties for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024.
Tensions Flare Over ‘One Nation, One Election’ Proposal
The political arena is ablaze with debates and disputes over the contentious ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal put forth by the central government. Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the Congress party, remarked that the increasing strength of the INDIA Alliance is causing unease within the ruling government. Kharge cautioned that the opposition should brace for more political skirmishes, potential raids, and arrests, attributing them to what he referred to as the government’s “vendetta politics.”
Earlier today, the central government officially announced the formation of a committee dedicated to studying the ‘One Nation, One Election’ concept. This committee, under the leadership of former President Ram Nath Kovind, will submit a comprehensive report on the feasibility and implications of this proposal. Meanwhile, the INDIA Alliance has chosen to delay the unveiling of its official logo. According to Sanjay Raut, a prominent leader of the Shiv Sena and UBT, some alliance members voiced concerns about the necessity of a common logo, given that each party already possesses its distinct party poll symbol.
