Pune : – In a concerning incident, an offence has been registered against a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA for reportedly assaulting an on-duty police constable in Pune, Maharashtra. The incident, captured on video, occurred on Friday at Sassoon General Hospital and has since circulated on social media.

Sunil Kamble, the legislator representing Pune Cantonment constituency, was recorded hitting an on-duty constable during a programme organized at Sassoon General Hospital, where Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar was also present. The video depicts Kamble descending the stairs after the event and slapping a man obstructing his path, identified as an on-duty constable attached to the Bundgarden police station.

In response to a complaint lodged by the constable, police have registered a case against Sunil Kamble under section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code. The constable alleges that Kamble’s actions interfered with the performance of his duty.

Denying the allegations, Sunil Kamble defended his actions, stating, “I did not assault anyone. I was coming down the steps when someone came in the way. I pushed him and went ahead.”

The incident raises concerns about the conduct of public officials and their interactions with law enforcement officers. Investigations will proceed as authorities examine the evidence and statements from both parties involved in the altercation.
