On Thursday, two men disguised in a burkha and helmet attempted to rob Jagadamba Jewellery Shop in Medchal. The swift actions of the shop owner and his son thwarted the robbery, forcing the assailants to flee empty-handed.

The incident occurred around 1.45 pm when the masked robbers entered the shop. One was dressed in a burkha, while the other wore a helmet. They immediately began threatening the owner, Sesharam, and stabbed him in the shoulder while attempting to loot the jewellery and cash.

Sesharam recounted the harrowing experience, “They entered in a fierce manner causing panic. One person wore a burkha covering his entire body while the other covered his face with a mask and helmet. I was so panicky that I raised my hands. The one wearing the burkha started stabbing me while the other took money and gold and put them in a bag. My son came out shouting from inside, throwing chairs and loudly calling for help. The perpetrators fled the scene leaving the money and gold behind.”

The incident took place just 25 meters from the police station. However, the police faced challenges in retrieving preliminary crime evidence as the accused wore gloves, preventing fingerprints from being left behind. Additionally, CCTV cameras in the area had been removed due to ongoing flyover construction, hindering the capture of the suspects’ images. Nearly 25 CCTV cameras were removed from the Medchal Check and other junctions due to the construction work, according to a reliable source.

Medchal Additional DCP Narsimha Reddy commented on the case, “We have formed teams comprising people from the clues team, crimes, SOT, and law and order. We suspect the accused belong to the Bawaria gang as they have committed similar crimes in four places before fleeing the scenes. Their actions like speaking Hindi, their appearance, and their violent approach, confirm the gang’s involvement. The efforts of the father-son duo prevented the theft. Although the elder one sustained injuries, he is currently doing fine.”

The police are actively investigating the case and working to apprehend the suspects.
