HYDERABAD: The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), under the leadership of Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, is gearing up for the upcoming Telangana assembly elections with an ambitious plan to introduce new and diverse candidates.
Two key constituencies, Charminar and Yakutpura, are poised for an infusion of young talent. In a strategic move, the party leadership is engaged in discussions with two longstanding MLAs to make way for these promising newcomers.
AIMIM’s floor leader, Akbaruddin Owaisi, recently conducted a three-hour meeting with Charminar’s sitting MLA, Mumtaz Ahmed Khan. This discussion was centered around persuading Khan to vacate his seat in favor of a young candidate. Interestingly, Khan has expressed the desire for his ticket to be passed on to his son, Imtiaz Ahmed Khan, a doctor with eight years of political involvement.
In another notable development, Akbaruddin Owaisi visited the residence of Yakutpura MLA Ahmed Pasha Quadri to explore the possibility of fielding a youthful candidate. However, Quadri, citing health reasons, did not seem enthusiastic about contesting the upcoming November 30 elections. There is speculation within AIMIM circles that Nampally MLA Jaffar Hussain Meraj might be relocated to a different constituency.
Sources indicate that AIMIM is on the verge of finalizing its candidate list and the number of constituencies it will contest, with an announcement expected by the end of this month. There is a buzz about the party’s potential participation in seats like Jubilee Hills, Rajendranagar, and Nizamabad Urban.
In the previous 2018 assembly elections, AIMIM successfully retained Charminar, Chandrayangutta, Yakutpura, Bahadurpura, Malakpet, Karwan, and Nampally seats but lost Rajendranagar.
Front-runners for the Yakutpura and Charminar seats include former mayor Majid Hussain, Nooruddin Owaisi (son of Akbaruddin Owaisi), and Imtiaz Ahmed Khan (son of Mumtaz Ahmed Khan). Notably, the party is also exploring the possibility of fielding a female candidate in one of the constituencies.
Stay tuned for further updates on this evolving political landscape as AIMIM gears up for the Telangana assembly elections.
