Hyderabad :- The Telangana High Court has postponed the swearing-in ceremony of recently appointed Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) under the Governor’s quota and rescheduled the next hearing to February 8.

This development follows a petition filed by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders Dasoju Shravan and Kurra Satyanarayana, challenging the appointments of Professor Kodandaram and Amir Ali Khan under the Governor’s quota.

Shravan and Satyanarayana had been nominated as MLCs by BRS under the governor’s quota in 2023, but their appointments were rejected by the governor. In response, the BRS leaders argued in court that the nomination by the BRS government under Article 171 was legitimate, and the governor had no authority to reject it.

Interestingly, when the Congress government nominated Kodandaram and Amer Ali Khan under the Governor’s quota, they received the governor’s approval, prompting legal scrutiny by the BRS leaders.

The court’s decision to defer the swearing-in suggests a judicial intervention into the dispute, highlighting the complexity surrounding the nominations and approvals under the Governor’s quota for MLCs in Telangana. The upcoming hearing on February 8 is expected to provide further clarity on this matter.
