New Delhi : In a shocking development, a blast occurred near the Israeli Embassy in the Chanakyapuri area of New Delhi on Tuesday evening. The incident unfolded at approximately 5:20 pm, prompting swift responses from law enforcement agencies.

The Israeli embassy has officially confirmed the occurrence of the blast, revealing that the explosion took place in close proximity to the consulate building. The Delhi Fire Department received an emergency call reporting the explosion behind the embassy.

Security and forensics teams from the Delhi Police have been deployed to the site to investigate the incident. An Israeli Embassy spokesperson, Guy Nir, informed Reuters that all embassy staff members are safe and unharmed.

“We can confirm that around 5:20 there was a blast at close proximity to the embassy,” stated Guy Nir. He further disclosed that Israeli authorities are collaborating with their Indian counterparts to ascertain the cause of the explosion.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported a loud sound, with one individual stating, “This happened around 5 pm, I was on my duty and heard a huge sound. When I came out, I saw smoke coming from the top of a tree, that’s all I saw…The police have taken my statement.”

The Chanakyapuri area has been cordoned off, and security personnel are actively managing the situation. Delhi Fire Services Director, Atul Garg, reported that, as of now, no explosives have been found at the location.

A team from the Delhi Police’s Special Cell has also arrived at the scene, intensifying efforts to ensure the safety of the area. Police officials, speaking to PTI, stated that a thorough search is underway in every corner of the vicinity. However, post-investigation, Delhi Police reported that nothing significant was found.

“Following an extensive investigation, the Delhi Police have not discovered any significant evidence or explosive materials at the site,” stated a police spokesperson. This outcome adds to the mystery surrounding the incident, leaving authorities and the public with unanswered questions.

This incident eerily echoes a similar occurrence two years ago when a low-intensity blast rocked the vicinity of the Israel Embassy. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the 2021 incident. Israel had attributed the blast to Iran, leading to an ongoing investigation by the National Investigation Agency. The current blast has revived concerns and questions about the security situation in the area, prompting heightened vigilance and a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the explosion.
