Hyderabad : In a no-nonsense approach, the newly appointed Police Commissioner of Hyderabad, Kothakota Sreenivas Reddy, issued a stern warning to drug trafficking gangs, making it abundantly clear that they have no place in Telangana and Hyderabad.
Taking charge as the city’s top cop, Commissioner Sreenivas Reddy addressed the media, asserting a zero-tolerance stance towards drug-related activities.
“I want to tell drug gangs and those promoting drugs: pack off. Leave our city, leave our state. We are not going to tolerate you, however big you are,” he declared.
Commissioner Sreenivas Reddy outlined the police’s commitment to tackling the drug menace with an iron hand, aligning with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s vision of making Telangana and Hyderabad free from drugs. The focus will be on locations with reported drug abuse incidents.
A direct warning was issued to pubs, high-end bars, restaurants, and farmhouses engaging in illicit activities, with Commissioner Sreenivas Reddy vowing strong action against them.
In a surprising revelation, the Commissioner mentioned individuals in the film industry using drugs, expressing concern. Plans to collaborate with industry bodies like Film Chambers to curb the menace through educational initiatives were unveiled.
“Some people in the cine industry are behaving like children by organizing parties and encouraging the use of drugs,” he remarked.
Commissioner Sreenivas Reddy affirmed that stringent measures would be taken to cut the demand for drugs, emphasizing that the city serves as a significant destination for drugs from all sides.
Speaking about his priorities, the Commissioner pledged to focus on basic policing while aiming to bring transparency and accountability to the forefront. Leveraging his past experience as DCP (traffic), he expressed intentions to improve traffic management in the city.
Addressing the perception of friendly policing, Commissioner Sreenivas Reddy clarified that the police would maintain a friendly approach with those who respect and abide by the law. However, a firm stance will be taken against lawbreakers.
This marks a significant shift in the city’s law enforcement strategy as Commissioner Sreenivas Reddy takes the helm, signaling a robust crackdown on drug-related activities in Hyderabad.
