In a thought-provoking lecture, Prof. Faizan Mustafa drew a compelling analogy, likening a state without laws to a human body devoid of a mind. Emphasizing the indispensable role of legal frameworks in effective governance, he highlighted the intricate interplay between magistrates, judges, and citizens as the cornerstone for preserving freedom.

Positioning the rule of law as the ultimate authority, Prof. Faizan Mustafa made a clear distinction from the potentially oppressive nature of “rule by law.” He articulated the nuanced difference, emphasizing that the true essence of the rule of law lies in justice and freedom.

Addressing a contemporary threat to democracies, Prof. Faizan Mustafa pointed to the prevalence of “rule by law,” highlighting its potential risks when wrong laws are enacted and implemented.

Justice G Sri Devi emphasized the critical need for the judiciary to thoroughly examine accused records, cautioning against potential blunders if overlooked. She urged young advocates to meticulously study evidence, sharing concerns about hastened judgments leading to unjust, prolonged incarcerations.

Drawing from her own journey as an advocate to the District Court and later the High Court, Justice G Sri Devi offered her availability for legal mentoring, expressing a commitment to guide fellow advocates and prevent the detrimental impact of wrongful judgments on the lives and careers of undertrials.
