New Delhi : In a pivotal development during the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament, the Ethics Committee’s report on Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra in an alleged “cash-for-query” case is set to be tabled in the Lok Sabha today. As the Parliament reconvenes for Day 5 of the Winter Session, Chairperson Vinod Kumar Sonkar and Aparajita Sarangi are scheduled to present the First Report (available in Hindi and English versions) of the Committee on Ethics.
The Ethics Committee, prompted by allegations from BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, concluded its investigation and adopted a 500-page report on November 9. The report recommends Moitra’s expulsion from the 17th Lok Sabha, citing her purportedly “highly objectionable, unethical, heinous, and criminal conduct.” The draft report received a 6:4 majority in the panel last month.
According to sources, the draft report reveals that Moitra visited the UAE four times between 2019 and 2023, with her member portal login credentials accessed on 47 occasions from Dubai. The TMC has advocated for Moitra to be given an opportunity to present her defense.
