Hyderabad : In a significant show of solidarity, representatives from 44 registered trade unions in the unorganized sector and contract-based service segments convened on Tuesday, unanimously pledging their support to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). The meeting, organized by the BRS Karmika Vibhagam, the trade union wing of the ruling party, saw trade union leaders expressing their endorsement for Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao’s hat-trick bid.
Finance Minister T Harish Rao, addressing the gathering, highlighted the BRS government’s commitment to workers’ welfare, noting a substantial 30 percent pay hike for contract workers across various departments, aligning their compensation with that of government staff. Rao outlined the series of measures implemented during the nine and a half years of BRS rule, benefiting contract workers, Asha workers, Anganwadi workers, and home guards.
Assuring further hikes for workers in various sectors, Rao asserted the BRS’s readiness for a resounding electoral victory. He specifically addressed concerns of workers in the automobile sector, promising the formation of a transport board. The State government’s support for workers engaged in the mid-day meal scheme was acknowledged, with increased remuneration being highlighted.
Rao urged workers to unite against what he termed as the Centre’s “anti-worker and anti-employee policies.” He emphasized the BRS’s scrapping of the quarterly tax in the state, particularly benefiting workers in the automobile sector. Comparatively, government employees in the State were noted to receive the highest salaries when compared to counterparts in Gujarat and Karnataka.
The Finance Minister highlighted the State’s commitment to job security, citing enhanced remuneration for home guards and steps taken to ensure overall job stability. The meeting underscored the collective endorsement of the BRS by trade union leaders, emphasizing the party’s track record in championing workers’ rights and welfare.
